Delyth's Wing Walk

WINGWALK

At 10:15 on Thursday 10th August at RFC Rendcomb Airfield, Cirencester,  I took part as a private team member of AeroSuperBatics, enjoying an adrenaline rush of a lifetime.  Being given this amazing opportunity, I decided to open it up to sponsorship, helping to raise funds for Hospice Hope, where I volunteer on Fridays at the Ashby Support Café.

Due to inclement weather it was disappointingly cancelled on my scheduled wing-walk day (9th August), but I was relieved to be the first to take to the skies early the following morning.

The hardest part was climbing onto the wings to be strapped in, but once the pilot checked the propeller and revved the engine we were off.  After the initial climb, we eventually flew at one hundred and thirty-five miles per hour, cruising across the skies being completely exposed to the elements, being steered through twists and turns and climbing to the clouds before entering a 500 feet vertical dive!!! (Did I start to have second thoughts?) No, not at all!

I felt privileged to be able to take part in this jaw dropping aerial experience which I will never forget.  I stepped out of my comfort zone, a little scared to begin with but quickly realised that I had a mind-blowing, exciting 20 minutes ahead of me and made the most of it, waving and screaming all the way which is why I have no intention of sharing the coverage from the camcorder which was attached to the wing, far too embarrassing!

So a huge thank you to everyone who supported me in raising £710.00 plus Gift Aid.
